Jean François Pignon – Back by popular demand!

jfp1.gifThe British Open Show Jumping Championships returns to the NEC, Birmingham next Easter (16th – 19th April 09) and is delighted to announce the return of the world-famous Jean François Pignon and his magical white horses. His spectacular display of horsemanship will provide headline entertainment throughout the show.

Jean François Pignon, a name renowned the world over, is famous for his breath-taking equestrian displays and is proud to be unveiling an all new performance unique to the 2009 British Open which promises to be nothing but phenomenal. Jean François will perform two different displays in every performance in which he will demonstrate his sheer talent, which has been heralded by Horse and Hound as the ‘best equestrian display ever to visit this country’. Former show jumper and leading jockey, Johnny Francome, has described his performance as ‘a mesmerising display of trust and skill.’

Years of dedicated training with his horses will climax at this year’s show revealing just how loyal and magical the bond between them is and how it enables them to perform such an impressive and emotive display. Jean François’ father instigated his son’s passion for horses when he bought him a yearling filly named ‘Gazelle’ whom he rescued from the butcher as a Christmas present when he was only nine years old. Over a period of time, Jean François nurtured her back to normality and through the unique trust he formed, he developed an unbelievable relationship with horses.

Helena Pettit, Managing Director of Grandstand Event Management, organisers of the British Open Show Jumping Championship said, “We are delighted to welcome back Jean François to the British Open Show Jumping Championships. His extremely popular display not only has wide appeal but is also completely unique. People travel vast distances to see him perform live as it is certainly a display that audiences will remember forever.”

Leading British rider and two times Champion, Robert Whitaker, will return to defend his title as the 2008 British Open Show Jumping Champion and compete in the top speed and jump-off classes on offer.

The sensational Metropolitan Police Activity Ride is also back by popular demand and will consist of eight active Metropolitan Police Officers and their horses demonstrating their unrivalled level of skill and agility. On Saturday evening, the world’s top eventers will compete at Britain’s most prestigious indoor cross country event. Famous faces such as Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt and Zara Phillips will be invited to participate in this hugely popular discipline.
